THE PROJECT
A documentary comedy focus on a group of young people with cerebral palsy accessible to walkers, who embark on a journey of adulthood on their Wheelchairד and treadmills. This is a farewell journey from the framework in which they were educated and trained for a life of independence, in the hope of making it clear to Israeli society that they have a lot to contribute to it.
THE STORY OF THE FILM
A difficult and challenging journey, mentally and physically, on wheelchairs and walkers, from the north of the country to the south where the number of companions exceeds the number of young people. During the journey they acquire new skills, fight fears, meet places and people and get a chance to see and show how they can integrate into Israeli society naturally and successfully.
THE GOAL
Usually, they struggle to make Israeli society accessible to them, but here the goal is the opposite. The mission that these disabled young people have taken upon themselves is to break the limits of disabilities and make themselves accessible to Israeli society, so that they will know them and give of themselves and from the bottom of their hearts. Everything was done with a lot of humor and a good spirit, which is part of the way they chose to look at us who walk on two, to look at themselves and their disability without sorrow or self-pity but in a positive way befitting the participants of the journey and the team accompanying them.
16 young people aged 18-21 participate, most of them have cerebral palsy, it is not a disease, some speak but cannot walk, some can walk but have difficulty speaking, some are able to move their bodies and move on their own and some require close assistance with daily tasks. Among the participants are also 21 staff members, assistant teachers, and volunteers – who do everything for the young people. Feed them, help them get up and walk, go to the bathroom, and clean themselves. The plot will focus on the main protagonists with their prominent personal stories and challenges.
THE FILM’S VISION
It is to introduce the disabled to the public and society, until they become a natural part of it, as it should be. We will expose their disabilities without filters, without protections. The viewers will be exposed to a beautiful world – almost utopian, they will be moved and laugh until tears. And it will be seen that they have a lot to give.
We will bring to the screen their captivating personality and humanity, their deep emotions, and desires in all their beauty, before the eyes of a public that usually automatically recoils when it sees them. Young people with big hearts, most of whom are innocent, loving, smart and generous in our cynical, “normal” world. We will prove that these young people can make our world a better place to live in, when people are more aware and kinder to others and their environment.
PRODUCTION AND SCHEDULE
